Getting started
roamy is a travel-data app. You buy an eSIM plan for wherever you're headed, install it from your phone, and it connects you to a trusted local network the moment you land — no roaming bills, no SIM swaps, no airport kiosks.
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone — nothing physical to insert or lose. roamy loads a travel plan onto it digitally, so you can carry data for several countries at once and switch between them in a tap.
We recommend it, but it's not required. Install your plan from your sofa while you still have Wi-Fi, and it simply waits — the countdown only starts when you connect at your destination. You can also buy and install once you've landed if you forget.
Most plans go live in around thirty seconds. Choose a destination, pay, and the eSIM installs and activates — usually before you've reached the baggage carousel.
Devices & setup
Most phones from the last few years are eSIM-ready — recent iPhones, Pixels, and flagship Samsung and other Android devices. The app checks compatibility before you buy, so you'll never pay for a plan your phone can't use.
After you buy, tap Install in the app and follow the on-screen steps — or scan the QR code we generate. Your phone adds the plan to its eSIM settings automatically. No copying numbers, no carrier calls.
Your phone needs to be carrier-unlocked to use any travel eSIM, roamy included. If you bought it outright or finished your contract, it's almost certainly unlocked. If you're unsure, your carrier can confirm in a minute.
An eSIM plan installs on a single device. If you want data on a tablet or a second phone, add a separate plan for it in the app — you'll see all of them together on one screen.
Plans & data
As a rough guide, 1 GB covers light use — maps, messaging, the odd search — for a few days. 5 GB suits a week of regular browsing and social. If you stream or tether often, look at 10 GB or an unlimited plan. You can always top up mid-trip.
The app warns you well before you run out, and a top-up is a couple of taps away — no reinstalling, no new QR codes. Your connection never drops mid-trip.
Unlimited plans include a daily allowance at full 5G/4G speed — typically 2 GB. After that you stay connected, unlimited, at a reduced speed until the next day resets. You're never cut off and never charged extra.
Regional plans cover groups of countries — like 36 across Europe — and a global plan reaches 190+ countries on a single eSIM, so one purchase can carry an entire itinerary.
roamy plans are data-only, which keeps them simple and inexpensive. You can call and message over data apps as usual — and because your home SIM stays active, your normal number still works for regular calls and texts too.
Activation & validity
Your validity period begins the moment the eSIM connects to a network in your destination — not when you buy it. Install it days ahead and the clock only starts when you land.
Yes. roamy runs alongside your existing SIM, so your home number stays active for calls and texts while roamy quietly handles your data abroad.
Data simply stops — no surprise charges, no overage. To keep going, buy a fresh plan or top up before it ends. Expired eSIMs tidy themselves up so your settings don't fill with old profiles.
Because the countdown only starts on first connection, an unused plan effectively waits for you. Buy ahead for an upcoming trip and it stays ready until you arrive and connect.
Billing & refunds
You pay up front, with the effective per-GB rate shown before you buy. No contracts, no monthly fees, and no roaming charges waiting for you when you get home.
All major cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay for one-tap checkout. Prices are charged in USD; your bank handles any currency conversion at its usual rate.
If a plan hasn't been installed or activated, you can request a full refund within 30 days. If something went wrong after activation, message support — we'll look at it case by case and make it right.
Every purchase is listed under Orders in your account, so it's easy to keep track of — handy for expensing a work trip.
Coverage & networks
roamy partners with top-tier local carriers in every country — the same networks locals use. Each destination page lists the exact networks before you buy.
Where the local network offers 5G and your phone supports it, yes — at no extra cost. Elsewhere you'll be on fast 4G LTE. The speed available in each country is shown on its plan page.
Nine times out of ten it's a quick setting: make sure the roamy line is turned on for data and that Data Roaming is enabled for it. If it still won't connect, support can sort it in minutes.
Because you ride on established local networks, coverage matches what residents get — strong in cities and along major routes, thinner in genuinely remote spots. For off-grid travel, a regional plan lets your phone pick the best available network.
